Salisbury Mother and Daughter Arrested on Drug Charges

Sometimes family conflicts lead to much more severe legal consequences than anyone may anticipate. That was the case here in Salisbury earlier this month.

According to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, a man called 911 to report an assault. When deputies responded, he said that he had found marijuana plants in his home. The man says that he told his mother and sister that he was going to notify the police about their activities.

The man also told law enforcement officers that the two women knocked the phone from his hand when he said he was notifying authorities and then assaulted him. Allegedly, his sister, age 19, jumped on top of him and bit him. He said that his mother, who is 54, kicked him after he was on the floor.

According to law enforcement, when they arrived on the scene with a search warrant, the mother attempted to keep them from entering the home.

Both women were eventually charged with assault, marijuana possession, intent to distribute and other offenses. The mother has also been charged with disorderly conduct and crimes related to obstructing justice. Both the mother and daughter are in the Wicomico County Detention Center.

Deputies say that the found a number of marijuana plants inside and outside of the home. They also say that they found digital scales, fertilizer and plant lights.

Even though laws regarding marijuana are changing throughout the country, growing and distributing it can still carry serious legal ramifications. If you have been charged with a marijuana-related crime, it's essential to have experienced legal guidance and representation from a Maryland criminal defense attorney.
